The Game Awards is known to close with one last big game reveal. However, last year’s closer was a controversial one. Instead of getting the first look of a game from an already known and respected studio, like Naughty Dog with Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet from the year prior, we got a look at Highguard, a PvP raid shooter from the creators of Apex Legends and Titanfall.
Since that reveal, developer Wildlight Entertainment has gone silent. Now, a new update has surfaced, and it may be good news for players looking forward to the game.
When will Highguard release for PS5?
In a recent tweet from the official Highguard X account, Wildlight Entertainment announced it will be holding the Highguard Launch Showcase on Monday, January 26, at 10 a.m. PT, the same day as its announced release date. The post confirms that the showcase will feature an in-depth look at the shooter, including a full gameplay deep dive, year one plans, and more.
Highguard is scheduled to release for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on January 26. Additionally, it will be free-to-play, which usually means players won’t need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play online, like Fortnite or Apex Legends. However, unlike the PC version via Steam, there is no listing for the shooter on the PlayStation Store, and it seems it won’t go up until the game goes live.
Here is a description of Highguard for PS5 players interested in checking out the upcoming multiplayer shooter:
“From the creators of Apex Legends and Titanfall, comes Highguard: a PvP raid shooter where players will ride, fight, and raid as Wardens, arcane gunslingers sent to battle for control of a mythical continent. There they’ll clash against rival Warden crews for possession of the Shieldbreaker, then break into and destroy the enemy base to secure territory in this all-new breed of shooter.”
