One of PlayStation’s newest and most beloved series, the Horizon franchise, is getting a new game, but now how fans might expect.
What do we know about the new Horizon video game?
In a new announcement from PlayStation and Guerrilla, the duo revealed Horizon Hunters Gathering, a surprise co-op action game set in the world of Horizon and coming to PS5 and PC.
The game lets up to three players team up as hunters to take down machines together. In the announcement of the game on the PlayStation Blog, Game Director Arjan Bak said the game came together as the team drew experience from their days making Killzone, another beloved franchise.
According to Bak, the foundation of Horizon Hunters Gathering “centers around challenging and replayable hunts.” The game will feature many modes, but Guerrilla revealed two, Machine Incursion and Cauldron Descent, today. The first mode sees players fighting waves of machines led by a formidable boss, while the second is a multi-stage trial that featurs “ever-changing rooms,” and sounds more like a roguelite experience.
Horizon Hunters Gathering lets players choose from a roster of Hunters, each of whom have their own unique playstyles, and features a “rogue-lite perk system” that lets you craft and build different ways to play. The game does also feature a narrative campaign, which Guerrilla says will introduce “new mysteries, characters, and threats,” but they’re keeping that under wraps for now.
A closed playtest of the game is set to be available shortly for those who have the PlayStation Beta Program on PS5 and PC.
