Gorgeous PS5 Remake of Beloved PS2 Game Gets Strong Reviews

A recent remake of a beloved PlayStation 2 game is out now on PlayStation 5, and has launched to rave reviews.

What PS5 remake is getting strong reviews?

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake, the remake to the 2003 game of the same name, is out now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Developed by Koei Tecmo Games, the remake of the classic horror game is actually the second remake that this game has seen, after a remake was released for the Wii in 2012 in Japan and Europe.

Thankfully, fans anywhere can get this entry, and the game’s launch has been positively received so far. On OpenCritic, the game debuted to a strong rating of 78, with just under 80% of critics recommending the game.

IGN’s Will Borger says the game isn’t flawless, but “is memorable, terrifying, and artistically stunning.” Nintendo Life’s Mitch Vogel echoed these sentiments, saying the game “isn’t quite the home run some may have hoped for, but it’s an overall enjoyable and worthwhile experience that I’d suggest picking up at some point.”

The SixthAxis’ Steve C loved the game, saying it “is probably the best of the series so far, with an atmosphere and narrative that will hook you in and leave you feeling incredibly immersed. There is a great deal of depth to the camera-based combat and exploring the village is a wonderfully atmospheric experience.” PlayStation Lifestyle’s own Tyler Treese also found it a “beautiful game that is often chilling, any horror game fan will want to check out Team Ninja’s remake.”
