New PS5 Zombie Shooter Out Today on PS Store

We are not even through a quarter of 2026, and there are already tons of great games available for PS5 players to purchase. From Game of the Year contenders like Resident Evil Requiem to great indie gems like Planet of Lana II, there is something for every gamer to check out. That includes John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, a zombie shooter from the mind of the iconic horror film director.

What is John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando?

Developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is a cooperative shooter where up to four players will team up as the titular squad to take out the Sludge God and its undead horde. It is powered by Saber’s Swarm Engine, which has been used in games fan-favorite games like World War Z and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.

Here is a brief description and trailer for John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, giving players a glimpse of what to expect from the zombie shooter:

“In the near future, an experimental attempt to harness the power of the Earth’s core ends in a terrifying disaster: the release of the Sludge God. This eldritch abomination begins terraforming the area, turning soil to scum and the living… to undead monsters! However, the genius behind the experiment has a plan to make things right. All he needs is a team of competent, highly-trained mercenaries to get the job done. Unfortunately, those are all too expensive. Which is why he’s hired… The Toxic Commandos!”

John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is available now on the PlayStation Store for PS5 in two different editions. The Standard Edition costs $39.99 and just includes the base game; players who preordered received the Leon’s Secret Stash DLC as a bonus. The Blood Edition costs $49.99 and includes several extra goodies. Here is everything included in the Blood Edition:

  • Base Game
  • Bloody Season Pass
  • Cosmetic Pack

It should be noted that an online connection and PlayStation Plus are required to play John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando. Players should make sure they are subscribed to PlayStation’s online membership, or expect to subscribe, if they plan on picking up the cooperative shooter.
