PS4 system software update

PS4 Update 13.50 Quietly Rolled Out as Support Winds Down

Sony rolled out PS4 system software update 13.50 for March 2026 last night alongside the highly anticipated PS5/PS5 Pro firmware update. The update brings both good news and somewhat bad news for last-gen owners.

“We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens,” the official patch notes read.

The good news? There don’t seem to be any “security fixes” included in this update, which is Sony’s term for plugging exploits and vulnerabilities that allow players to hack and jailbreak the console. The somewhat bad news? These are probably the only improvements last-gen owners can expect now.

Sony has been pulling the plug on PS4 features in phases. The latest removal was PS4’s Tournaments and Teams functionality back in October 2025.

Meanwhile, developers have been ending support for major games like Genshin Impact and The Finals. Just yesterday, another open-world RPG — Tower of Fantasy — announced its end of support for the PS4.

Last night’s PS5 system update brought some welcome features for both the base console and the PS5 Pro. Unfortunately, however, the PS Portal hasn’t received a new update since November 2025, which is curious because the popular remote player could benefit from further improvements.
