A new report suggests that one of Sony’s major upcoming PlayStation 5 games could end up being free when it eventually releases.
What upcoming PS5 game could be free?
According to a new report from Insider Gaming, Haven Studios‘ upcoming Fairgames (stylized FAIRGAME$) could be free when it eventually launches. The report mentions that the game is going to be free-to-play when it releases and is going to rely on “in-game monetization” for its future funding and costs.
The report comes inside of a larger report on the game having some trouble throughout its development. Notably, the report mentions that the game is going to “lean into” the extraction shooter genre and will feature a dedicated game mode that will basically be an extraction mode similar to that of Marathon.
Originally revealed in 2023, Fairgames was described as a “competitive heist experience.” Insider Gaming’s report notes that the game mode, titled “Cargo Heist,” will feature an extraction element, with a description of the game mode reading:
- Break In – Find a vault code to gain access to the safe. Collect cash, upgrade your skillset, and make your play.
- Drill – The vault is breached. Be the team to grab the cargo, or set up your strategy to intercept it.
- Extract – The Cargo must be brought to the Extraction Site. Use the Extraction device to call your ride home. If your team fails to extract cargo, use another exit to Getaway.
Release details on Fairgames are unavailable as of now. The game is set to release on the PlayStation 5 and PC.
