A long-running developer and publisher has unexpectedly turned its 2024 PS5 game into a free download. Double Eleven‘s action shooter Blindfire can now be downloaded for free via the PS Store. The company wanted to give players across all platforms a “gift” so that everyone could see their creation.
PS5 action game Blindfire avoids pulling a Concord, goes free instead of offline
Long story short, Blindfire bombed. The game first launched in early access in 2024 but failed to attract players. However, Double Fine says it doesn’t believe in pulling the plug, unlike Sony’s treatment of Concord. The company has released one final update for the game.
Blindfire is now completely free, and its servers will remain live “indefinitely.”
“We are doing this because we believe games are art and they deserve to be preserved. We refuse to bury what we built just because things didn’t go perfectly,” Double Eleven explained. “We are keeping it alive because we are proud of it. You won’t see adverts or marketing campaigns trying to drag you back in. This is just a gift to those who want to see what we created.”
Here’s Blindfire’s final trailer:
For the uninitiated, Blindfire is set in a neon underworld. The twist is that the lights are off, and you need to be creative in order to take down your enemies.
Will our readers be checking it out?
