Acclaimed PlayStation 5 RPG Out Today on PlayStation Store

Developer Cold Symmetry has released the highly anticipated soulslike sequel to Mortal Shell on PlayStation 5. Mortal Shell II arrives five years after the original, which added a unique twist to the soulslike gameplay formula. The sequel adds more shells, an improved combat system with more to offer, and an expanded open world.

Ahead of its release, reviews for the game praised it unanimously. Mortal Shell II currently has a score of 84 on Metacritic, with positive reviews for both its PC and PS5 versions.

New shells and combat systems raise the stakes in Mortal Shell II

Critics have praised nearly every aspect of Mortal Shell II. The core mechanic of the game, where players hop between different “shells” with distinct abilities, is still intact. Weapon variety has also been praised, with more strategic options supporting different playstyles.

In the sequel, players take on the role of the “Harbinger”, a being who must reclaim the Undermether’s stolen eggs that are guarded by ruthless monsters. Unlike the first game, the sequel forgoes the stamina meter and places a more focused emphasis on actively switching between shells in combat. There are also other quality-of-life upgrades making the sequel a more accessible experience.

On the PlayStation Store, Mortal Shell II is available in three editions:

  • Mortal Shell II – $49.99
  • Mortal Shell II Devout Edition – $59.99

The Devout Edition of the game includes the base game and content from the Devout Edition upgrade. It includes a set of eight playable Obsidian Shell skins. Players who own or buy the base game can upgrade to the Devout Edition with a separate purchase of $10.99. On the PlayStation Store, the base game has a 4.61 rating based on over 4500 ratings from users.

Mortal Shell II is available now on PC, PS5, and XBOX Series X|S.
