Gaming chairs are typically built more for function over comfort. They’re compact enough to be tucked under a desk, ergonomic enough so that their users’ backs won’t implode, but not comfortable enough that you’d sit and watch The Lord of the Rings trilogy in them. This is great for PC gaming, but not so much for console players. FlexiSpot’s Lotus recliner is perfect for the latter, and it’s replaced my boring sofa as the go-to seat when I’m playing the PS5.
The Lotus is definitely more of a statement piece than a chair designed to be tucked away in the corner of your home office. By that I mean it’s a sizable seat — prepare to carve out a chunk of your room to accommodate it — and it looks great. I opted for the burnt orange variant decked in “linen-like” fabrics, with other colors ranging from moss green to graphite, and fabrics from bouclé to velvet.
Its wide, low seat lets you sink into its ample cushions, with a one-piece footrest letting you stretch all the way out. My two chihuahuas could both comfortably flank me on it, with it becoming their new favorite chair in the house as a result. Their enjoyment of it was amplified when it was used as a gentle rocking chair, as its swivel function allows for three adjustable angles that each provide perfect positions for gaming, reading, working, or snoozing.
There are three types of Lotus available; Standard, Pro, and Smart. The standard version has a manual recliner, the pro a built-in USB and type-c charging port along with electric recliner control, and the smart version adds wireless charging and a phone holder. The pro also features unlimited customized reclining positions while the standard has two, but the standard also has a 360-degree swivel range compared to the pro’s 270-degree. All boast a storage compartment in the side, which was useful for tucking away the TV remote and PS5 controller.
Despite its size, assembly was a breeze. It’s as simple as popping the back on the chair and fitting the cushions, taking no more than 15 minutes to get set up. I’d recommend setting it up exactly where you want it in your house, though, as given its size, moving it around your home takes some elbow grease.
The Lotus recliner is an eye-catching and substantial bit of furniture that ticks all the boxes when it comes to a relaxing, stylish seat. Whether you’re playing PS5, reading a book, or chilling with your dogs, this is a game-changing chair.
