Analyst Say PS3 Price Cut Soon, Sony Says No

March 8, 2009 Written by Richard Allen

ps3_prints_100Janco Partners has been sleuthing the console market situation and the PS3 price tag.  Mike Hickey the analyst on duty feels a $100 price discount is imminent.  Even going as far to say that Sony will be announcing this within days.

“Recent channel checks indicate increased speculation for a PS3 price cut announcement from Sony in the next couple of days,”

“We think the company needs to reduce the current price by USD 100 to effectively restart unit velocity at retail. We believe the market is expecting a PS3 price cut in April or by June at the latest,”

Sony has responded saying “No“, rumors have popped up before about pricing and so far few have been true.  At this point Sony has dramatically cut the costs of the PS3.  It’s going to be some time before they cover all the R&D costs, I honestly don’t think that will be a barrier to them being competitive though.
