Motorstorm: Apocalypse Won’t Move, Will Focus On 3D

Motorstorm: Apocalypse is the next entry in the PlayStation 3 staple racing series of games. Besides being in an entirely new setting, it will also take advantage of an entirely new type of technology: stereoscopic 3D, but not the PS Move.

In a recent EU PS.Blog livechat, Paul Rustchynsky from developer Evolution Studios elaborated on 3D in the upcoming title:

“We’ve always had 3D in mind for MotorStorm Apocalypse ever since we first implemented 3D into MotorStorm Pacific Rift. Where we realised just how impressive and immersive an effective it was. It really does give you a much greater impression of depth, which in a racing game is really useful to judge speed and cornering.”

Matt Southern later commented on the possibility of Move integration, stating that the team weighed the pros and cons of both 3D and Move, and ultimately decided that 3D would “be a bigger win” for them. SIXAXIS controls will still be supported for more “haptic” integration (likely swiping the controller to either side to shunt your opponent, much like in Motorstorm: Pacific Rift).

Motorstorm: Apocalypse is currently slated for a Q1 2011 release date.
