Sony to “Probably” Announce Vita’s Release Date at TGS

While gamers outside of Japan already had their hopes crushed earlier this week when Sony revealed that the PlayStation Vita wouldn’t make it to Western retailers until 2012, a firm release date has yet to be confirmed. However, with Tokyo Game Show right around the corner, gamers can expect to get an official date soon.

According to a statement from the president of SCE Japan, Hiroshi Kawano, it is likely that an announcement will be made at TGS concerning the PSV’s release.

Once we’ve set the final release date, we’ll let you know. The announcement will probably come at TGS.

Here’s to hoping that European and North American gamers don’t have to wait too long to get their hands on the handheld; after all, it could launch as early as January or February. Sony has indicated that the PlayStation Vita will see a “phased global rollout”. Let’s just hope that the time gap between releases in different territories is on the order of weeks rather than months.
