Grand Theft Auto Online Trailer was Demoed on PS3, “It Would be Hard to Tell” the PS3 & Xbox 360 Versions Apart

Back when the gameplay trailer was originally revealed for Grand Theft Auto V, it became known shortly after that the footage you saw was from the PlayStation 3 version.

As it turns out, the gameplay trailer for Grand Theft Auto Online today was from the PS3 version as well. This news comes from Rockstar North President Leslie Benzies, who spoke to CVG about GTA Online, simply saying “yes” when asked if it was demoed on PS3.

Following up that question, Leslie answered whether the PlayStation 3 was the lead platform:

Not really. This is probably the first game we’ve done where both platforms have been running in parallel. There’s very, very little difference in the development state of them both. They’re both very similar. It would be hard to tell them apart.

Previously, Rockstar has said that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions were “developed in tandem” and they “expect any visual differences to be completely negligible,” so even though they haven’t shown any Xbox 360 footage yet, it should look identical.

Grand Theft Auto V launches on September 17th, with Grand Theft Auto Online out two weeks later on October 1st.
