Japanese Freedom Wars Update Coming Day One in North America, Adds PvP & More

Last week in Japan, Freedom Wars for the PlayStation Vita was updated to version 1.20, which added a Player vs Player mode (up to 8 via Wi-Fi), Player vs Player Practice Mode using AI enemies, Ideology Wars (fighting is replaced with vote casting on limited-time prompts), and Special Extermination Volunteering (battle major Abductors individually).

With Freedom Wars launching in North America on October 28 and Europe on October 29, SCEA’s Nick Accordino answered some questions about the game over on the US PS Blog, confirming, “We’ll be releasing the patch that recently hit Japan by Day One over here.” If for some reason the patch misses its day one launch, he added that “it’ll be really close to it!” Nick didn’t talk about Europe getting the update on day one, but it’s likely.

He then clarified that the Freedom Wars gamewould include online co-op:

The base game (the version at retail and originally downloaded from the store) will be equivalent to the JP 1.11 release – meaning that online co-op and ranking will most definitely be there. Patch 1.20 (the current JP version) is on the way – we’re hoping to have it released by Day 1. 1.20 contains the online PVP and a few other tweaks, so we hope you’re looking forward to it!

As well, Accordino said, “The digital download clocks in at about 1.45 GB – not too bad if you ask me!” The day one patch will then be about 150MB.

Along with this news, PlayStation detailed the Panopticons (“Panopticons are your home locations – you’ll be completing operations and supporting your own Panopticon all throughout the single and multiplayer modes in Freedom Wars“) included in the Western release of the game.
