At PAX East 2016, CD Projekt RED announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s upcoming Blood and Wine expansion will introduce new Gwent cards based on the in-game location of Skelliege. The developer also showed off four of the new cards, the official images for which will be added as soon as they become available.
Discussing the positive reaction to Gwent, CD Projekt RED was asked if it was worth adding a game within a game and if it made The Witcher 3 a better package overall. The developer left the question up to fans, drawing a lot of cheers, and later commented that Gwent actually helped to bring new pacing to the game. In addition to this, card collection added a new layer of gameplay mechanics and storytelling possibilities.
