Creators of Netflix’s Stranger Things Inspired by The Last of Us, Silent Hill and More

Netflix’s Stranger Things has become quite a hit, and its creators make no secret of the fact that the show was somewhat influenced by popular video games like The Last of Us and Silent Hill. Speaking to IGN (spoiler warning), Matt and Ross Duffer said that they play “a lot of video games” so they “seeped into the show.”

Silent Hill is the one most people have picked up on because that’s the least subtle one with the look of the Upside Down and with all the fog and the forest dripping,” said Ross. Speaking about The Last of Us, Matt added, “I love that game and the storytelling in that game and a lot of the imagery.”

In addition to the above, the duo were also inspired by Dark Souls

We’re huge, huge fans of the Dark Souls games, and there’s something about when you’re playing Dark Souls – immediately when you’re in that world, it was to do with the imagery, it has to do with the sound design, and you’re just immediately very uncomfortable and on edge.

Have our readers watched Stranger Things and picked up on the video game influences?
