Accel World VS Sword Art Online Gets Western Release

The video game crossover between popular light novel and anime series Accel World and Sword Art Online is getting a worldwide release. Called Accel World VS Sword Art Online, the action role-playing game is currently set to release March 16, 2017 in Japan, and will be released in North America and Europe this summer. It’ll be available for both PlayStation 4 and Vita, but will be a digital-only release in North America.

The crossover is a natural fit, as both of the popular series deal with cyberspace and virtual worlds. Here’s the description from Bandai Namco:

The worlds of Sword Art Online and Accel World have begun to merge! In the midst of the chaos, the strongest Burst Linkers from Accel World and Alfheim Online Players from Sword Art Online must come together in a war of the worlds to challenge the Seven Kings of Pure Color and rescue a dear friend from the clutches of Personna Babel. This all-new original story comes from Reki Kawahara, the creator of both Sword Art Online and Accel World, for an interdimensional adventure between two popular anime franchises.

As far as gameplay goes, players will be able to build teams comprised of three characters. Characters from SAO will be able to fly and use magic, while Accel World characters will “have access to Acceleration and special techniques.” Since each type of character has different skills, players will most likely want to mix and match.

Accel World VS Sword Art Online is set to release this summer on PlayStation 4 and Vita.
