Update: Sony has confirmed a PS2 price drop

Remember that article PlayStation LifeStyle posted yesterday? Some believed that the announcement could be a PS3 price drop.  According to SCEA public relations manager Al De Leon, that rumor is false.

“As we have stated previously, we do not have plans for a PS3 price drop, and any rumors to that effect are false and are the result of speculation, SCEA remains focused on the long-term momentum of PS3. With the industry’s best software lineup this year, combined with our most aggressive marketing campaign to date, we remain confident in our approach and the value we’re delivering with PS3.”

So, I guess we won’t be seeing a PS3 price cut after all. Remember that when rumored price cuts come about for PS3, Sony usually denies with the ol’ “We don’t comment on rumors and speculation.” This time, the company has straight up denied a price cut.

But as Joystiq points out, Sony has not denied a PS2 price cut, which was one of the rumored announcements.
