Crytek Skeptical About Next Generation Consoles

Speaking at the on-going GDC Europe convention, Crytek president Cevat Yerli stated that he believed the next generation of consoles would come by 2012, at the very latest. Actually, Yerli and his studio have wondered if there will be a next generation at all.

“…there’s a big debate about whether there will be a next generation at all”, Yerli said.

Yerli then went on to talk about the mass criticism his studio recieved when they released the graphical behemoth, Crysis, to PC audiences in 2007.

“We are very often criticized for this but it’s the company’s intent to make things highly scalable. Therefore, users can play the game now, and then, when you buy a PC in two years time, the game will look better.”

Crytek is currently developing Crysis 2, which is scheduled to release for the PS3, presumably next year.
