Beyond Good & Evil 2 Still in Development, Sequel “Must be Perfect”

The silence surrounding Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been so painstakingly thorough that speculation emerged that development of the game had been put on hold. Although the series’ creator had already went on the record for saying the game is still in development, publisher Ubisoft has re-iterated that the game is indeed still being developed and the reason for the large media restriction on the title is due to the reason of getting the game to be perfect.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot expressed his thoughts to Kotaku on the second installment in the franchise by saying:

“We were, as we are, working on the game. What is very important with this next product is that it will be perfect.Michel Ancel’s intention is to come [out] with something really exciting. But everybody needs a little bit of patience.”

Although Beyond Good & Evil 2’s predecessor hadn’t exactly excelled on the commercial side of things, Guillemot still recognized that the title became established after a set period of time, hence one of the main reasons for a sequel.

“I would say the game was very well appreciated by the people who played it. But we didn’t have enough people when it was launched. After its time it become a very recognized product.”

Beyond Good & Evil was released back in 2003 and although – as mentioned above – the sales wasn’t too bright, the action-adventure game released to critical acclaim mainly due to its fantastic use of action adventure elements with various stealth segments, paired with an interesting plot. However, despite the great reviews it received, the game’s sales were unfortunately not mirroring the titles’ critical success. The reason for this was due to holiday releases taking a large portion of the spotlight such as fellow action-adventure titles Jak II, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and much more.
