Optional PS3 Firmware Update v4.11 Out Soon

Do you love downloading and installing updates? Then we’ve got some good news for you – Sony has announced a new firmware update, v4.11 for the PS3.

Eric Lempel, VP of Sony Network Entertainment, announced on the PS Blog:

Later tonight we’ll be releasing an optional system software update (v4.11) for PlayStation 3. This minor firmware improves certain aspects of system software, and is not mandatory to connect to PSN.

Again, this update is optional in the US and Canada, and can be downloaded by selecting System Update from the Setting column of the XMB.

Considering the timing of the update, it’s reasonable to postulate that it’s to do with connecting to the Vita, but nothing has been officially confirmed. The fact that Eric Lempel specified that the update is optional in the US and Canada – the only two countries to have a first edition bundle – also points to a Vita-related bug fix.

Will you be downloading the update, or are you not going to risk encountering more bugs?
