Vita Sales Double in Japan Thanks to Crystal White Model

While not quite as significant as the sales jump during the Persona 4: The Golden launch, the PlayStation Vita saw a substantial spike in sales this past week thanks to the launch of the Crystal White version of the handheld.

Enterbrain is reporting that 22,638 Vitas were sold, while Media Create estimates a figure closer to 25,636 units. Either way, these numbers don’t quite match the 34,459 units sold during the Persona 4 launch week.

Unfortunately for Sony, software sales didn’t follow suit, with rather unimpressive numbers. Only Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection and – you guessed it – Persona 4: The Golden were able to make to top 20 for game sales.

Unsurprisingly, the 3DS is blowing away the competition with not only five games in the top 20, but also a total 65,000 units sold this past week, dwarfing the Vita despite its spike. What does Sony have to do to overcome this hurdle? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments below.
