PlayStation 3 Passes Certification for Sale in China

It looks like Sony is one step closer to bringing their Blu-ray powered console to China, as the system has finally passed certification.

In order to bring the console to the region, Sony needed to receive a China Compulsory Certificate which TechinAsia explains as being “a compulsory safety mark for many products imported, sold or used in the Chinese market.”

But gamers in China shouldn’t get all too excited just yet, as Sony still has several other hurdles to overcome before the PS3 is made available. First off, there’s the issue of cost and then there’s also the ratings system to take into consideration. Needless to say, PlayStation 3s won’t be available in China next week.

Interestingly enough, video game systems are technically banned in China, but manage to sneak their way into people’s homes via the grey market or by being labeled as home entertainment devices. Boy am I glad I live in the United States!
