Game of the Year 2012 Award

December 21, 2012Written by Sebastian Moss

Winner: Journey

A year is a very long time. With the PlayStation family only having been around for 17 years, only a few games can ever get the GOTY award for Sony’s platform, out of the vast multitude of titles that have been released.

To be the best game of the entire year, a title has to be special, it has to be different. Just being bigger or bloodier than last year’s title doesn’t always cut it – a GOTY title is something that helps redefine gaming. In years to come, when people think of 2012, they won’t remember the average games, or those that failed to push the envelope. But they’ll remember Journey.

The game may be about the journey, rather than the goal at the end, but at the end of this year it’s only fair we give the game the biggest prize we can. Gorgeous visuals, incredible music, unique gameplay and a brilliant take on online interactions make Journey simply the must have title of 2012.

Runners Up:

  • Assassin’s Creed III
