Activision Responds to Disney Infinity: “We are Well Positioned to Continue Leading the Category”

When Disney Infinity was announced yesterday, the similarities between that and the Skylanders series were apparent, with both titles allowing you to purchase real-life toys and put them into the game thanks to a portal.

In an email to Forbes, Activision issued their response to the announcement of Disney Infinity, showing that they aren’t worried at all:

We are thrilled by the incredible success that the Skylanders franchise has had in such a short period of time. We are also flattered that one of the leading family entertainment companies is joining our toys to life category. We continue to focus on delivering innovative and immersive entertainment experiences to kids around the world and are pouring more creativity into our games. As a result we are well positioned to continue leading the category.

With the Skylanders franchise earning $500 million in the US during 2012, there’s definitely room for a competitor in this space. When Disney Infinity arrives in June, it will be very interesting to see if it can co-exist with Skylanders, or if it will be dominated by the giants.

Will you be a Disney Infinity and Skylanders owner this year? Or will you go for one over the other? Let us know in the comments below.
