D-link Wireless AC1750 Router DIR-868L W/ SmartBeam Review

DIR868L

With how competitive online gaming has become, and how powerful today’s games are, the very last thing you want to encounter is a dropped connection, or worse… Lag. Yikes! But thanks to D-Link’s newest router, boasting the fastest wireless internet to date, lag and spotty connections will be nothing but a distant memory.

This wireless router isn’t 802.11b, or g, or even n—what used to be the industry standard. No, this router has the latest in wireless technology, 802.11ac. If the technical details and all the lettering confuse you, know this: It’s approximately three times faster than most other wireless routers on the market—up to 1300mbps. And even better, it’s dual-band to avoid interference from other devices.

We tested it out with the PS3, PS Vita, even the PC, and honestly, we noticed the steadiest connection we’ve ever experienced. It’s difficult to say if all of that power is being put to use with current technology, but it’s great security knowing that the PS4 is right around the corner, and with things like Gaikai game-streaming and video uploading, that your router will be ready to handle it all. We didn’t even have a hiccup with any of the online multiplayer we test—not one. No dropped matches, no lag, nothing. Just a perfect gameplay experience.

Beyond gaming, the D-Link AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit Cloud Router works with the mydlink Cloud Management app and web browser application that lets you manage your wireless network from anywhere in the world you have a connection. You can use it with mydlink-enabled surveillance cameras to keep an eye on your loved ones or most prized possessions. And the user interface is intuitive and simple to use, as is setting up the router in the first place.

It features 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports, a Gigabit Ethernet WAN port, a USB port for printers and/or storage solutions, and has a WPS Push Button for one-touch Wi-Fi Protected Setup. The AC SmartBeam tech provides a more reliable connection, thanks to high-powered amplifiers, making it ideal HD video streaming or large size file transfers.

This router does it all, but at $149, it doesn’t come cheap. But as mentioned above, the added security of knowing you’re ready for the next-generation of consoles with a seamless and steady connection, the D-Link AC 1750 is a great purchase.
