Not All PS4 Retail Games Will be Sold on the PlayStation Store Day 1; PS4 to PS3 Cross Platform Online Play is “Technically Possible”

As we’re just over two weeks away from the PlayStation 4 launch on November 15th in the United States and Canada, Sony has decided to release a Mega PS4 FAQ. Since it can be rather daunting and contains so much information, we’ll be breaking the important information we’ve yet to cover fully into separate posts, hopefully making finding what you need a little easier.

When the PS4 was announced and game distribution was detailed, it appeared as though every single retail game would be made available on the PlayStation Store day 1.

Sony has confirmed that “ultimately, the decision lies with publishers on whether to make digital versions of games available on the same release date.” However, they do anticipate most PS4 games being sold digitally on the same day as retail. So, like the PS3, we’ll just have to wait and see if retail games will be sold through the PlayStation Store on launch day.

If you’d like, you can pre-order some PS4 games right now on the North American PlayStation Store before PS4 console launch, but for PAL regions, you won’t have the chance to do this at all.

Looking at PS4 and PS3 Cross Platform online play, it is “technically possible and some developers may choose to support it for their titles.”

Do you live in a PAL region and are disappointed that you won’t be able to pre-order PS4 games before console launch? Let us know in the comments below.
