Skyrim PS4/Xbox One Listing on Bethesda’s Website Due to “A Bug”; January 12th Tease “Another Fan Hoax”

It seems Bethesda’s having a run of bad luck right now, what with the big hoax last year that seemed to be teasing a Fallout 4 announcement, and now a listing on their website (via OnlySP) showing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for PS4 and Xbox One, but Bethesda says it was a bug.

After the listing popped up, Bethesda’s VP of PR and Marketing Pete Hines cleared up the error on Twitter:

“We have been working on the CMS that runs our sites. A bug caused platforms that don’t exist to show up for some games. Sorry for confusion.”

“Just a bug from a CMS update we did. 00/00/14 got entered in blank fields and caused this to appear. Sry for confusion.”

In addition to the Skyrim bug, another hoax popped up on Reddit, claiming Bethesda would be doing a special announcement on January 12th. Pete Hines also cleared this up on Twitter by saying, “No. Another fan hoax.”

Hines added, “Why do fans feel need to pull these hoaxes on other fans?,” and when someone asked why they responded so quickly to this hoax, he said, “As a result of that hoax, we changed our approach on things that appear to come from us. Though, this is gonna get old quick.”

A few questions also popped up about how people who received the email were chosen, with Hines replying, “Doesn’t appear list came from [Bethesda’s database]. Lots of us didn’t get that email. Others who haven’t bought from the store did.”
