SingStar PS4 Releasing in 2014, Microphones Not Required (Update)

Update: Sony’s Jenny Barbour has confirmed that the songs will support Cross Buy where possible:

Where possible we’ll be making tracks available on both platforms. If you have already bought the track on PS3, and the song is available on PS4, then you won’t have to pay again.

Original Story: Celebrating the 10th anniversary of SingStar today, and 26 million copies sold, it’s been announced that SingStar will be releasing for the PS4 later this year.

That’s not the end of the announcements either, as a free SingStar app for tablets and smartphones is coming soon. It will be compatible with the PS4 and PS3 versions of SingStar, and allows you to use your device as a microphone, with the ability to create your own personal playlists included as well.

SingStar Game Director Chris Bruce added:

We’re also working hard to optimize the social experience of SingStar by making it even easier to share the best bits of your night on Twitter and Facebook straight from the game. With an improved scoring system you can also build up your XP and get rewarded for game activity, or challenge your friends online and entertain them with your renditions of your favorite songs.

You’ll also be able to download tons more songs from the SingStore, from the latest Pop hits and Rock classics, to Hip Hop and RnB. In fact, we’ve just added Bruno Mars and some REM classics.

More details will be given out in the coming months, with PlayStation Europe saying, “Later this year we will also be releasing SingStar: Ultimate Party on PS3 and PS4, which will host a collection of 30 epic tracks, which represents great value for anyone new to SingStar. The track list is looking great and we’ll be bringing you more news on that soon.”
