PS4 Firmware Update News “Very Soon,” August 2014 PlayStation Plus Free Games Reveal Next Week (Update)

Update 2:

The August 2014 PlayStation Plus Free Games for North America and Europe have been revealed.

PS4 firmware update 1.74 is now available.

Original Story:

Last week, Microsoft announced that the Xbox One’s August update would enable 3D Blu-ray functionality, meaning that it would get the feature before the PlayStation 4 did.

Although Sony hasn’t hinted at what the next PS4 firmware update will do, PlayStation Blog Europe Manager Fred Dutton replied to someone who asked if we’ll hear anything about PS4 firmware updates soon:

Yes, more news on PS4 firmware updates very soon. Stay tuned.

Elsewhere, Dutton was asked if we might learn of the August 2014 PlayStation Plus free games this week. He said, “No, not this week – it will be the week after. It’s looking like an eclectic list this month – should be something for everyone.”

As well, and this is likely only in Europe, Dutton confirmed that “there will indeed be a summer sale. It should begin next week, with a series of updates over the next month or so. I haven’t seen a full content list yet, so please don’t ask for any clues! Hopefully there should be something for everyone in there.”

Once we hear about the next PS4 firmware update and the August 2014 PS+ free games (announcement should happen on Thursday, July 31), we’ll let you know all the details.
