First-Person Exploration Game Ether One is “Coming Soon” to PS4

Launched earlier this year on PC, developer White Paper Games has announced that Ether One, a “first-person exploration game with optional puzzle solving,”will be coming to the PlayStation 4 “soon.”

This won’t just be a straight PC to PS4 port, as White Paper Co-Founder Pete Bottomley confirmed that they’ll “be creating Ether One from scratch in the new Unreal Engine 4″ to make it “feel great on console.”

Talking a little about the studio, Bottomley mentioned how they were nominated for a Develop Award in the Use of Narrative category, and when Sony asked if they wanted to bring Ether One to PS4, “our answer was unanimously YES!”

He continued by explaining exactly what Ether One is:

Ether One is a first-person exploration game with optional puzzle solving. If you like to explore worlds and unravel the story without worrying about puzzles then you’re free to do so. However, if you’re the old school adventure, pen and paper type player that loves solving all the puzzles then Ether One has a lot of that for you, too. If you choose to pull apart everything in the world you’ll be rewarded with a deeper narrative understanding.

Our aim with Ether One is to tell a story about how fragile the human mind can be and what it would mean for someone close to you to not even be able to recognize you anymore. A lot of our family members have struggled with the illness of dementia and we felt it was something close to our hearts which we had to explore in our game. A lot of you reading may have experienced the effects of dementia first hand, if you have, we hope a game like Ether One will help you relate to your own experiences.

Your role in Ether One is that of a Restorer, an individual with the ability to project himself into the mind of someone suffering from mental illness in the hopes of restoring their memories. Once inside the mind, you will have to find the broken fragments of your patient’s memories in order to heal and restore them. By piecing together these fragments, you’ll start to understand more about your patient’s life, where they grew up and what your place is in all of this.

When Ether One receives a release date on PS4, we’ll be sure to let you know.
