inFamous Developer Sucker Punch Hit by Layoffs

Sony-owned Sucker Punch, the studio behind inFamous and Sly Cooper games, has been hit by layoffs. This news was officially confirmed by Sony to IGN in the following statement:

SCEA can confirm a reduction in workforce has taken place at Sucker Punch Productions. Sucker Punch is appreciative of the tremendous work team members contributed to the inFAMOUS and Sly Cooper series, and wishes them the best in their next endeavors.

There’s no indication of how many people have been made redundant, but it looks like long-term employees may have been let go since the official statement mentions Sly Cooper series as well. The original Sly Cooper was released for the PlayStation 2 in 2002.

Sucker Punch was founded in 1997 and partnered with Sony to produce exclusive games in 2002. Its most recent title was inFamous: Second Son, which was released earlier this year.

Our thoughts go out to those affected by this.
