PlayStation Heroes Initiative Announced: Play Games With Celebrities, Help Out Charities

Likely what was teased last month, Sony has announced PlayStation Heroes, a new initiative that gives PlayStation 4 owners the chance to play celebrities and athletes in the games of their choice, with nearly all proceeds going to charity. Instead of being a one-off type deal, people will get the chance to challenge the celebrities every month.

To participate you’ll need to download the PlayStation Heroes app for PS4 (out February 24 on PlayStation Store in North America), with pre-orders of the app available today, giving you the chance to purchase dynamic themes early, which serve as your entries for a chance to win.

For those dynamic themes, you’ll be able to choose between a $1, $5, $10, or $15 one, with each dollar spent counting as one entry. You’ll also be able to buy a $20 bundle that counts as 31 entries.

Here’s a look at the celebrities you’ll be able to play with in the next few months:

  • Shaun White (Destiny, Make-A-Wish America) – March 2015
  • Yasiel Puig – April 2015
  • Snoop Doog – May 2015
  • Stephen Curry – Summer 2015

To kick this intitiative off, Sony is donating $100,000 each to Make-A-Wish America, The USO, and The V Foundation for Cancer Research.
