Yoshida Explains Why First-Party AAA Games Aren’t Coming to the Vita

Earlier this week, we reported that Sony confirmed that it’s no longer making AAA PlaySation Vita games and now we know why.

In an interview with Game Informer, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida states that consumer expectations as one of the major factors as to why we won’t be seeing AAA PS Vita games.

We are not making games like Killzone Mercenary, big budget Vita games anymore…The expectation of the graphical quality and size of the world for these type of games have risen after the launch of PlayStation 4. The same thing happened with the PSP. People were so excited to be able to play PS2 graphics games on the go. After PS3 launched, expectations grew. The types of games on PSP were not as attractive.

Well, there you have it. At least we now know why, right? Is Yoshida correct in his assumption? Would the majority of Vita gamers expect PS4-level graphic from a handheld game?
