Sony No Longer Making AAA Games for PS Vita

It looks like Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) won’t be making any more AAA games for their PlayStation Vita system.

In an interview with IGN, SCE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida explained that the handheld console won’t be getting any more big first-party games. He did, however, remind us that companies like Square Enix, which is bringing World of Final Fantasy to the PS Vita, are still developing big games for the Vita. And besides, Yoshida explained, indie titles and cross-platform games will continue to hit the handheld.

To be honest, I wouldn’t say we will have big AAA Vita games from first-party.

But yesterday, Square Enix announced the new World of Final Fantasy. That’s coming on PS Vita as well. And as you know and as I know, there are great games that come out digitally on PS Vita that are typically cross-platform with PS4. Volume is coming out soon and Super Time Force Ultra. There’s no lack of great games you can play on PS Vita and PS4. You can play at home on PS4 and continue on with cloud save on PS Vita.

Were you expecting Sony to final confirm something like this? Or are you surprised that it will no longer be fully supporting its console?
