Let’s Hijack This Famitsu Warriors Survey

Famitsu is currently conducting a survey to see which musou games (“Warriors” games. Think Dynasty Warriors, Pirate Warriors, Dragon Quest Heroes, Hyrule Warriors and so on) have been the fan favorites and more importantly, what other franchises you’d like to see as musou games. Koei Tecmo does a lot of listening to surveys like this, so if you want to show your fan demand for a particular franchise, this seems like the place to do it. Need help filling out this Japanese survey? Good news! I’m Heath and this is kind of what I do! 😀

First, here’s the link to the survey. Famitsu links crap out sometimes, so don’t worry if that fails. Just hit Enter or Return as if you typed that in your address bar or click “refresh.” Here’s a translation of the form itself. We’ll get to game titles later.

famitsu-warriors-survey1famitsu-warriors-survey-2The results of the survey will be posted in an upcoming issue of the Weekly Famitsu magazine. Cutoff date to submit your answers is which is 10:59a.m. EST on Oct. 19 (because it’s Oct. 20 at 11:59p.m. JST)

Now then, do you need to know how to say certain game franchises in Japanese, so that you can copy and paste them in there? Sometimes you can find that info online by searching around Wikipedia or translators, but not always. For example, if you want Atelier Warriors (fuck yeah), you want to paste アトリエ, not 画室. This is important.

If you’re not sure if you’ve got the name of a game right, a good idea is to paste your text into Google Images and see what turns up. If it’s characters and scenes from that game, you’re golden. If it’s not, well, something went wrong.

I’ll start you off with a few, but if you have specific questions, ask in the comments below. If I see them (hey man, I have a real job I gotta go to), I’ll update this list or answer you, or perhaps one of our community can jump in and help out. We’ve got a few readers located in Japan, and beyond them, several more who can handle Japanese, so they might know what you’re looking for.

Anyway, some starters:

Ace Attorney: 逆転裁判

Atelier: アトリエ

Breath of Fire: ブレスオブファイア

Disgaea: 魔界戦記ディスガイア

Final Fantasy: ファイナルファンタジー

Mario: マリオ

Sonic: ソニック

Suikoden: 幻想水滸伝

Tales of: テイルズオブ

Wild ARMs: ワイルドアームズ

Yakuza: 龍が如く

You might want to leave the reasoning blank, lest you give away that you’re a smelly foreigner and they don’t count your vote. I don’t know if they’ll do that, just putting the suggestion out there. I’ve seen stuff like this go both ways.
