PS2 RPG Odin Sphere gets a remake tomorrow, in the form of Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir for PS4, PS3, and Vita. There’s currently a demo on the Japanese PlayStation Network, and I played the Vita and PS4 versions for comparison purposes.
I found both to be much smoother than the original, but of course, the demo didn’t delve into the areas where it got to its worst onPS2. There’s still an intentional frame rate drop for some kind of “dramatic kill” that Vanillaware either gets high on or uses to mask real slowdown. Who knows, right? It looks stupid though. Fortunately, that’s pretty much the only thing that looks stupid in Odin Sphere.

Cold damn, those are sexy. Both versions look incredible, especially if you’ve got on O.G. Vita. Atlus USA has confirmed a June 7 release for this new version of Odin Sphere, but Europe is apparently still in the dark — where it tends to be, when it comes to Atlus games.
