Shuhei Yoshida Not Sure Whether There Will Be a PlayStation 5

With the PlayStation 4 selling like hotcakes, it might be safe to assume that Sony is already planning on its successor, the PlayStation 5 (PS5).

However, it’s not a done deal just yet. In the latest Game Informer show, which you can watch above, Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning revealed that during a private dinner back in February 2015’s DICE event, he asked Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida to share some details on PS5, and Yoshida’s response surprised Lanning.

“I said, ‘What does the PlayStation 5 look like?’ And he said, ‘You mean if…’ And I was like, ‘Whoa. Are you willing to say that on stage?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, it’s an if.'”

As you can probably guess, the “if” part when it comes to the PS5 wasn’t discussed on stage since if it were, it would have been big news and understandably so.

While we don’t know what direction Sony will be taking with its PlayStation brand in the future, the odds of us seeing a PS5 out in the market is very good — especially seeing as how big of a money earner the PlayStation brand is for the company.

Then again, with Sony apparently prepping the PS4K (or now known as “Neo“), it might be quite a while before we see the PS5’s existence even acknowledged by Sony.

Do you think there will be a PS5? And more importantly, would you even buy one?
