Rocket League Studio on PS4K: No Different Than Having Another Console to Develop For

With rumors surrounding the PS4K or NEO sounding more and more likely, some developers have expressed displeasure at the existence of the alleged PS4 revision.

It seems Rocket League developer Psyonix isn’t one of those studios. In an interview, Psyonix VP Jeremy Dunham offered his thoughts on developing games for PS4K and mentioned how it’s just like developing for another console.

Well, hypothetically in the situation you have raised, it’s no better than having any other additional platform to develop for.

It’s what’s interesting about the question, the hypothetical, is, would the introduction of this item change things severely? And the answer is, it doesn’t really change much if that is the case. Because it’s really just a matter of whether or not you can support another platform, and that’s really what it boils down to- how the pros and cons of the hardware, or the extra VA time needed, or the amount of new assets you have to build, those are all considerations that all developers have to make, any time they develop for any additional platform, be it Sony or Microsoft or even the iPad.

Do you agree with Dunham’s statement or is PS4K something that developers shouldn’t even be troubling itself about? Regardless if it means added work for developers, it seems PS4K is more than a rumor by now. Hopefully, we’ll know more come E3.
