Partnering with GameTrust, GameStop’s publishing label, developer Ready at Dawn (The Order: 1886) has announced De-formers, a physics-based arena combat game coming “soon” to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
In development since August 2014, De-formers features local and online multiplayer, and you can create teams of any size with up to eight players in total (you can do 4v4, 1v7, or anything in between). As you can see in the teaser trailer, you play as squishy characters called forms, who can absorb fallen players to grow bigger and stronger and perform new abilities.
Game Director Andrea Pessino said, “From the beginning we wanted it to be melee-based. It fits with the fact that it’s 100 per cent based on physics. There’s not a single animation in the game. Everything is simulated.”
Ready at Dawn has around 100 developers, and Creative Director Ru Weerasuriya assured The Verge that De-formers doesn’t mean they’re getting away from big-budget console titles. “We have, for lack of a better word, gaming ADD,” he says. “We shift gears where our passions take us.”
