Rocket League developer Psyonix isn’t the only dev out there that wants to incorporate cross-play for their game; The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt RED also wants cross-play between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for their upcoming game, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game.
Also like Psyonix, CD Projekt RED has a method for Gwent cross-play between systems, but they’re waiting for Sony to give them the thumbs up. CEO Marcin Iwiński gave the following statement to IGN:
We are keeping our fingers crossed for Rocket League paving the way. Our upcoming Gwent: The Witcher Card Game will launch in closed beta for PC and Xbox One later this year, and Microsoft already confirmed Gwent’s cross-play feature not only between Xbox One and PC, but also other consoles if they allow it. We also do have a technical solution in place for PS4 and would love to add Sony’s platform to cross-play at the start of open beta. All we need is a green light from Sony.
Iwiński also put the call out to other developers to ask for cross-play between all platforms, consoles as well as PC. The more developers that wish to implement cross-play and come up with their own cross-network solutions, the more likely it is that cross-play will happen.
