Call of Duty: Black Ops 3: Salvation Impressions – Strap Your Boots On

There was a ton to see, play, and do at Call of Duty XP 2016. Rounding out our hands-on coverage of all that Activision had on offer at the shooter-fest is Call of Duty: Black Ops III. The final piece of DLC for this game is due out shortly, dubbed  “Salvation.” We spent a little bit of time with the new content, and have impressions available for your reading pleasure.

While there’s the continuation and eventual finish of the Zombies story in this release, here we only focused on a single multiplayer map: Outlaw. In case you couldn’t tell by the name, the Outlaw map is a western-style revamp of the “Standoff” map made popular in the last Black Ops entry. There’s a farmhouse and other tight corridors that play host to quick-and-dirty combat.

Featuring an authentic theme that’s dripping with elements of the Great American Frontier, it’s easy to miss all the subtle nuances the map designers have put in the map, like stacks of hay in a barn room, or a giant stuffed bear that I may or may not have shot at the first time I saw it. Okay, so some of this theme’s elements are a bit more obvious than others. But considering that such a map is in a game as fast-paced as Call of Duty: Black Ops III, a lot of the smaller details may be missed simply because players are spending all of their time trying to stay alive.

This is the final DLC to release for Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and should give fans a decent amount of content to sift through as they hungrily wait for new content in the form of the upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. By now, you know the drill, and have made up your mind as to whether Activision’s DLC schedule works for you. DLC 4 – Salvation will be available on September 6, 2016, for $15 USD or as a part of the season pass available for $49.99, which includes this and all other DLC released to date.
