Bethesda Thinks Skyrim Special Edition “Is Going to Do Tremendously Well”

This holiday, two of Bethesda’s biggest games are The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim Special Edition on October 28 and Dishonored 2 on November 11, both for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Speaking with MCV UK, Pete Hines, Bethesda’s VP of PR and Marketing, said he thinks Skyrim is going to do tremendously well with little explanation, while they’ll need to spend more time explaining what Dishonored 2 is:

With Dishonored 2 being the sequel to the game of the year, it is the biggest, most important thing we have. Even though I think Skyrim is going to do tremendously well, I don’t think we need to spend a whole lot of time explaining what that is.

But with Dishonored 2, we want to spend time highlighting the fact that it is not just the same game. We want to show that the team has been really ambitious.

After bringing up how Dishonored was the only new IP released in holiday 2012, and how they’ve now established its credibility, Hines added that “we think Dishonored 2 will get much more attention and focus.”

In terms of expectations for Dishonored 2, Hines thinks it would be unfair to the game and developer Arkane Studios if they said it has to do as well as Fallout 4. “I don’t think someone like yourself would ever look at Dishonored 2 and say, ‘Absolutely, that is the same as Skyrim in terms of its potential.’ It is a different game from a different studio. It can still achieve enormous success and not be Skyrim,” he added.

As a reminder, unless something changes within the next month, Skyrim won’t launch on PS4 with the planned mod support.

Will you be getting Skyrim for PS4?
