Mages of Mystralia interview

Magical Action-Adventure Game Mages of Mystralia Announced for PS4

An action-adventure game where you create your own custom spells to solve puzzles and fight enemies, Mages of Mystralia is coming to PlayStation 4 (in addition to PC) in spring 2017, developer Borealys Games announced today.

Set in a world where magic is rare and illegal, you play as Zia, a young girl who discovers she has the gift of magic and goes on a quest to master her skills. During her journey, Zia discovers that she can combine runes in different ways to create new spells.

Dan Adelman adds:

There are potentially millions of ways to combine these runes, so as you master the system, you will be able to create spells that no one has ever seen before. At PAX, one journalist created a spell that shot a fireball which – when it hit its target – froze the enemy in place and dropped boulders on his head. Another person made a decoy version of Zia that spins around and shoots lightning bolts.

Asked if Mages of Mystralia is open world, Adelman said, “It’s not open world per se. It’s more different dungeons connected via some hubs. So you go into an area, and in order to work your way through the area (and get to the boss/powerups/etc. at the end) you need to solve puzzles and fight bad guys.”

Mages of Mystralia will be at PlayStation Experience in Anaheim on December 3 and 4, where you’ll be able to play through a complete area of the game.
