PlayStation Messages App, PlayStation Communities App Updated Today

Coinciding with the release of PlayStation 4 update 4.50 today, the PlayStation Messages and PlayStation Communities apps for iOS and Android devices have both received updates.

Here’s a look at what’s new with each app, on each device:

PlayStation Communities

iOS (4.50.8)

  • The number of new notifications is now displayed over the app icon on the home screen.
  • You can now easily access the PS Store page for a Community’s associated game.
  • Some time zones have been added or updated.
  • Stability during use of some features has been improved.

Android (4.50.9)

  • The behavior after tapping the back button has been changed.
  • You can now easily access the PS Store page for a Community’s associated game.
  • Some time zones have been added or updated.
  • Stability during use of some features has been improved.

PlayStation Messages

iOS (4.50.17)

  • You can now respond with a quick reply when you receive a party invitation (such as “I’ll join later” or “Sorry, I can’t join”).
  • A mobile icon is now displayed to indicate Friends who use PlayStation App or PlayStation Messages but are not currently online.
  • Cover images are now displayed on player detail screens.
  • You can now rotate the images you attach.
  • You can now check the status of PlayStation Network services by going to [Settings] > [View Status of PSN Services].
  • You can now check whether this app has been updated to the latest version by going to [Settings] > [About PS Messages].
  • Stability during use of some features has been improved.

Android

  • You can now reply to messages directly from notifications.
  • You can now respond with a quick reply when you receive a party invitation.
  • A mobile icon is now displayed to indicate Friends who use PlayStation App or PlayStation Messages but are not currently online.
  • Cover images are now displayed on player detail screens.
  • You can now rotate the images you attach.
  • You can now check the status of PlayStation Network services by going to [Settings] > [View Status of PSN Services].

According to the Android website, the PlayStation Communities app has 500,000 – 1,000,000 installs, while the PlayStation Messages app has 5,000,000 – 10,000,000 installs.
