Latest Nine Inch Nails Video Features PSVR Title Polybius

Chalk this up as a collaboration that we didn’t know we needed, but is definitely awesome. Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor recently recruited the talented, and rather eccentric, game developer Jeff Minter for his latest single. The video for “Less Than,” which can be seen above, features footage from a custom build of Llamasoft’s Polybius, which released earlier this year for PlayStation 4 and PSVR.

Ars Technica reached out to Minter and found out how this collaboration came together. It all started with a totally out of the blue call from Reznor. “[Trent] mentioned that he’d enjoyed Llamasoft’s stuff and he had an idea to discuss,” said Minter. “Of course I was super chuffed to hear he’d liked our work, as I’ve enjoyed his a lot over the years too!”

What Reznor wanted was a custom version of the trippy game that would display the song’s lyrics (alongside some custom effects) while playing the latest Nine Inch Nails single. Minter says the work took a few days, but that the overall coding was simple to do. Interestingly, since the game is currently a PS4 exclusive, it means that Reznor is now in possession of one of the only PC versions of Llamasoft’s latest title. The exclusivity deal for Polybius ends in November, which is when it’ll hit other systems (Minter says he already has the game running on Oculus Rift and is looking to get it up on HTC Vive as well).

Polybius is available now on PlayStation 4, and is fully playable in PlayStation VR.
