Persona 5‘s best girl, Makoto, is coming to the silver screen next year. A-1 Pictures announced that they’re handling Persona 5 the Animation over at their official website. It’s the follow-up to a 30-minute, one episode adaptation called Persona 5 the Animation -The Daybreakers-, which was released alongside the game last year in Japan. This new series will premiere on television in 2018.

Seeing how previous Persona anime adaptations were well done expectations will be high for Persona 5 the Animation. It also has a strong base to build off of. Here’s what we said about Persona 5 when it released earlier this year in North America via our official review:
Persona 5 is proof that few titles can compare to a truly great role-playing game. Over its 60 hour playtime I got to forge meaningful friendships with an eccentric cast of characters, discover the secrets of Tokyo, and even managed to find some nice restaurants to dine at. The time investment might seem like a lot, but rarely is time wasted when spent with friends. It doesn’t reinvent the genre, as it largely builds upon Persona 4‘s stellar base, but it adds a level of polish that is simply lacking from its contemporaries.
It’s been a good week for video game anime announcements as Steins;Gate 0‘s anime was also announced.
Persona 5 the Animation is set to release in 2018.

Persona 5 Spin-Offs

Ace Attorney: Sae Niijima
By the end of Persona 5, Sae ends up turning in her prosecutor's badge. She now aims to become a defense attorney, with aspirations to help the innocently accused. It's a noble cause, and a game following her new occupation (perhaps in the vein of a certain Capcom series) would be a blast.
-
Ann & Rise Model Adventures
Ann's modeling aspirations go past the one year that Persona 5 takes place in, and it'd only make sense that she'd eventually come across another Japanese idol, Persona 4's Rise Kujikawa. A modeling game pitting the two characters as rivals (and eventually friends), could provide a fun way to make some of the most beloved Persona characters meet up. As far as mechanics go, the great Style Savvy games provide a base that could be expanded upon.
-
Art Academy: Persona 5 Edition
While not a technical showcase, Persona 5 still manages to be one of the best looking PlayStation 4 games. This is due to some amazing art direction, that left me impressed from start to finish. A mobile game starring Yusuke, where he teaches the player how to draw the game's iconic characters and enemies, could make for a really fun art lesson, and would even fit into the Persona 5 canon.
-
Café Leblanc
One of the highlights of Persona 5 is getting to learn the ins and outs of cooking curry and making coffee. It's clear that Sojiro knows his way around the kitchen, but what if Café Leblanc wasn't always so empty? A Diner Dash-style game where Sojiro would have to manage keeping customers happy, while also cooking food, could make for a fun mobile game. It would just have to take place in an alternate reality where people actually went to Leblanc.
-
Persona 5 Arena
Developer Arc System Works really hit it out of the park with Persona 4 Arena, their 2D fighting game adapatation of Atlus' popular RPG. A sequel adding in the cast of Persona 5 seems like a no-brainer. Plus it could allow players to settle the ultimate debate — Chie vs. Makoto.
-
Persona 5 Dancing All Night
One constant in the Persona series is that there's always fantastic music, and Persona 5 is no different in that regard. Thus it'd be great if another rhythm game was made in order for gamers to rock out to the excellent soundtrack. Judging by the RPG's opening movie, the Phantom Thieves have some wild dance moves to show off, so this is a natural fit.
-
Persona 5 Golden
Remote play is one of the PlayStation 4's coolest features, but getting to see Persona 5 played on Vita felt like one huge tease. The game seems like a perfect fit for portable play, and it only makes sense that a enhanced handheld version will be made at some point down the line. Whenever it does, I'll happily reunite the Phantom Thieves, and get back to stealing more hearts.
-
Persona 5 x Detective Conan
The police in Persona 5 have a difficult job tracking down the Phantom Thieves, but what would happen if Conan Edogawa was on the case? That's a dream scenario for some fans, and the beloved teenage detective isn't unfamiliar to crossover video games. This alternate timeline game could have players seeing both viewpoints, and alternate between playing sleuth and criminal.
-
Sojiro Dating Sim
If I learned one thing while playing Persona 5, it was that Sojiro is a certified ladykiller. While he still has plenty of charm when the game takes place (just look at that hat!), it'd be really fun to see Sojiro's past explored in a dating simulator. While he might not find Mrs. Right, I'm sure his adventurous ways led him into all kinds of hilarious situations in the past.

The Littlest Hobo: Morgana Edition
Near the end of Persona 5, Morgana ends up spending several months as a stray cat. What kind of mischief did he possibly get into during this time period? That's what one spin-off could explore, and I'd like to see it presented in the format of The Littlest Hobo, a Canadian television series that followed a helpful stray dog from town to town.
