Spike Chunsoft Announces North American Subsidiary

Today, Japan-based video game developer and publisher Spike Chunsoft Co., Ltd announced that they would be establishing its own North American subsidiary called Spike Chunsoft, Inc.

According to the company in a press release, the subsidiary will serve as a base of operations for its global publishing and localization strategy. Spike Chunsoft, Inc. will serve as global publisher for titles developed by its parent company, in addition to any projects developed by MAGES. Inc., a subsidiary of the Dwango Corporation, under a newly formed strategic partnership.

Thanks to Japan-developed games having risen above the “niche” status that they used to occupy, companies like Spike Chunsoft are now looking to localize and publish content that audiences all over the world can appreciate.

In a statement by President & CEO for Spike Chunsoft CO., Ltd and Spike Chunsoft, Inc. Mitsutoshi Sakurai, he said thanks to the connected world that we live in, players can play games with people across the globe, and because of that, it is the goal of Spike Chunsoft to “cultivate” that potential into something that “transcends time, genre, and nationality.”

“Until now, our titles were produced in Japan and distributed worldwide by our business partners.” said Sakurai. “But given how the instantaneous speed of information has become the norm, we believe that communicating with our overseas audience directly is a new avenue for us to create joy.”

Spike Chunsoft, Inc. will reveal more at the upcoming Game Developers Conferece in March 2018. The company says they will have a presence during the show days for product demos, along with its second annual, invite-only event as they share more details on their global expansion plans.
