The Witcher Netflix Series Being Written By Daredevil, The Defenders Writer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich
Variety has revealed that Netflix’s upcoming The Witcher adaptation will be written by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, whose portfolio includes The Defenders, Daredevil, and Power. According to the publication, she’ll serve as the show-runner and executive producer.
Although video game developer CD Projekt RED doesn’t appear to be involved in the project, author Andrzej Sapkowski will be on board as Creative Consultant. Back in May, he expressed his excitement for the project and said:
I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over 30 years writing. I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.
Sean Daniel (The Mummy, The Expanse) and Jason Brown (The Expanse) will also serve as executive producers alongside Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawso from Polish animation and film studio Platige Image.
“The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world,” said Daniel and Brown following the initial announcement. “The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.”
