SEGA may not have been ready to reveal the date for the release of Shenmue I & II remasters. However, it appears others either weren’t on the same page with the publisher or simply couldn’t hold their water. Listings on the European PlayStation Store surfaced early this morning. The bundle for Shenmue I & II will arrive for both Europe and the US on August 21. But the PlayStation Store isn’t solely responsible for the release date dropping ahead of schedule. Microsoft’s Larry Hyrb, aka Major Nelson, prematurely let the cat out of the bag on his blog, too.
At the time of writing, the remaster does not appear on the US PlayStation Store. Yet, preorders are live on the EU store and other platforms. The collection will cost $29.99 USD and £24.99 on the UK store.
Shenmue I & II follows Ryu Hazuki in 1986 as his father’s murder leads him on a hunt for answers and vengeance. These two classics are considered amongst the greatest games of all time. Thus, their earning the remaster treatment has been a long time coming. Luckily, the story continues in Shenmue III. However, this new adventure will carry forth without the help of SEGA. Series creator Yu Suzuki is developing the game independently.
Shenmue III is currently without an official release date, but will arrive sometime in 2019.
